4th International Conference on the

Geographies of Children, Youth and Families

Young People, Borders & Wellbeing
January 12-15, 2015
San Diego, California, USA

Welcome

This is the 4th international children's geographies conference, prompted by the vitality of geographies of children, young people and families. The aim of the conference is to provide a forum for the exchange of different knowledges, ideas and experiences among researchers and practitioners from a variety of international contexts and disciplinary fields and to foster the exploration and advancement of geographies of children, youth and families.

A Conference for Scholarly Exchange and Networking

Taking inspiration from its location on the US/Mexico border, the conference is organized around the theme of young people, borders and well-being. We encourage presenters and participants to explore the bordered contexts of children and young people’s lives, including (but not limited to) childhood/adulthood, intergenerational relations, politics, (im)mobilities, ethnicities, citizenship, education, labor, play, engagement, activism, etc.

The deadline for submission to the conference program has passed, and we have received more than 120 abstracts from scholars trained in a broad range of disciplines who will be coming to San Diego from 33 countries.  You can expect to learn about groundbreaking research in paper sessions and to participate in dynamic discussions at panel and open forum sessions.

The conference also includes two keynote speakers, Katharyne Mitchell and Tracey Skelton, exhibitions of young people's art, and a fun banquet on a restored sternwheel ferry boat docked right outside the hotel.
